This is the 4th major revision of the script and font for the Persian language called Bostani, loosely named after the poem Bustân by Sa’adi. I have added some cursiveness, unified some shapes for better integration, and redesigned some uppercase glyphs. Discussions of earlier versions of the script can be viewed here and here, and the earliest development notes can be found on the Bostani evolution page of 2010. My intention with the current version was to make it more attractive, more flowing, and easier to write.
The letters
The design basis for each letter comes from historical precedents, mainly Avestan, Pahlavi, Arabic and Greek, but now, after many years of “evolution”, the focus is to have them look nice as individual glyphs and as part of a team (for words and sentences). The script runs from left-to-right, and this version makes the letters suitable for close fitting, and in some cases smooth joining.
Here is the full set. In many cases the upper case letter resembles its lower case, but others are modeled on Avestan or other sources.
