Sky Knowledge promotes an ‘immoral’ view that Humankind is
deteriorating and its Progress illusory.
There is a powerful minority adhering to the Litany of Progress, using statistics and
cold ‘facts’ to show such things as improved standard of living, better
health, higher income, better certainty, less ignorance. Some even see a cleaner
world!
It is of course a credit to our species (and we are always quick to gather praise,
for some reason) that we have managed to solve certain immediate problems. Unfortunately,
moderns are surprisingly short-sighted and on the whole too self-centered to consider
beyond the timeframe of very recent events and the just-in-time solutions of local crises.
Notice how nothing is said of Quality of Life, State of Mind, even Morality, or our
proper place on this planet at the end of a million-year span of human presence.
It is ‘immoral’ to sidestep issues of fundamental importance - identity,
meaning, harmony - in the pursuit of superficial gains and realized fantasies,
which is Progress.
